Desert Queen is an Estonian riff-rock band formed in 2015. Inspired by atmospheric sounds, dramatic vocals and riff-driven guitars, the band has been gaining acknowledgment during past few years.
Desert Queen started as a side project for the founding members, Oliver Ernest and Mihkel Maidla, two friends who grew up in a small town called Põlva in the Southern part of Estonia. Bass player Aron Laanelind and drummer Martin Kütt soon joined the band and Desert Queen in its core was ready to develop as a serious rock-group.
First EP “EP” was recorded in 2016 with Kris Kirs on vocals. In 2017 the band was asked to create original score for a drama piece “ Kangelased” by Peeter Volkonski and theater Must Kast. All the songs were recorded and released as an album called “ Kangelased”.
In 2018 Desert Queen aimed for some new ideas, goals and sounds. As the current vocalist Helen Kirsi joined the band, new songs started to evolve and in autumn 2018 Desert Queen introduced their fresh material. A single “Day Is Young” was released in November and was acclaimed by fans and local radio shows. Another single “Lukas” was released in the beginning of 2019.
Full album “Brand New World” was recorded in summer 2019 and released in November.
“Brand New World” represents destruction, awakening, beginning and end. Phoenix rising from the ashes is a symbol which creates the world for Desert Queen. Ashes, where the new energy, power is being built on. “Brand New World” explores the entity of self and limits of our being.
