I have many 78's of Al Bowlly with Roy Fox & His Band, so I thought it would be a good idea to upload their first collaboration, and last. The first title and last, are very prophetic indeed.
Sides one and two were recorded on 5th January, 1931.
Sides three and four were recorded on 23rd September, 1932, and interestingly, Roy Fox wasn't even present at this session. He was recuperating at a sanatorium in Switzerland after developing pleurisy some time earlier. Lew Stone, the bands pianist and arranger, was directing here instead.
It's also interesting to note that Al is labelled as ''Kenneth Allen'' on the first two sides. Kenneth Allen was Roy Fox's previous vocalist with his American band. An error on Decca's part, no doubt adding strength to why this record is so rare. I bet many collectors overlooked this disc in the past, due to the name-masking of Al Bowlly !
