Incredibly it is five years ago today since the Jack Hylton Concert at Lancaster University. It was such a memorable evening. Michael Law's Piccadilly Orchestra was specially augmented and also featured Hylton historian Pete Faint.
The concert include many tunes associated with Hylton including \"Shepherd of the Hills\", \"I kiss your hand, Madame\" \"Did you mean it\" and many others. Perhaps the tune I recall more than most is the slightly risque \"Ever since I kissed her on the Volga\", which the band played with its usual aplomb.
It's not often I feature comedy songs but on this occasion I'll make an exception.
Jack Hylton Jnr. was present . Peter Wallace, came from Yorkshire and Jonathan Holmes travelled from the south west to be there. Richard Herfeld flew all the way from Germany especially for the concert.
There is on line footage which endeavours to re-capture part of the evenings entertainment but you really needed to be there to truly appreciate the atmosphere of that special evening,
This is Hylton's original recording from 9th February 1932 with vocal chorus by Pam O'Malley.
