Dino Valenti: Birdses

Taken from the 7\"single 'Don't Let It Down/Birdses' 1964 on Elektra Records, written by Dino Valenti. Best known for writing the enduring anthem of peace 'Get Together' (which took The Youngbloods to #5 in the US charts), Dino Valenti was an ever present figure on the early 60's New York folk scene before relocating to the San Francisco bay area and forming Quicksilver Messenger Service. Born into a travelling family of entertainers, Valenti was continually blighted with drug busts throughout his long career in music and spent time in prison for his petty misdemeanours, no doubt due to the masses of cash accrued through songwriting since he was forced to sell the publishing rights to 'Get Together' to aid his freedom. However, Valenti was far more than just the writer of 'Get Together', as is evidenced on his only solo album 'Dino Valente' (he was to change his name as and when he wished...his real name was Chester Powers Jr.) on CBS Records/Epic Records in 1968 and Karen Dalton's cover version of 'Something On Your Mind', which is every bit classic Valenti. He proceeded to write and record with various other bands and artists throughout the 70's and 80's until his sad demise in 1994. Here you have the b-side of his only solo single, and beautiful it is too! i do not own,or claim to own any copywrite regarding this recording.
