This commentary is an interesting listen for all those who worship at the altar of the mighty Darkthrone. I first became aware of the record in early '92, shortly after its release. I already had their first album, 'Soulside Journey', & absolutely loved it. I was eager to hear what they'd come up w/ next. My friend Steve Gaille (R.I.P. - he was the vocalist for Stressball) came over to my place one day & told me he'd just heard the new Darkthrone at Phil Anselmo's house. Steve & Phil were embarking on a new band called The Satanic at the time. My band Apostasy practiced next door to them & we did a sick show together. Anyway, Steve described the album cover to me: a guy in corpse paint that looked like he was flying through the sky, pictures of members in the woods, the cold sound of the record, the influence of early Bathory & Celtic Frost, etc. Naturally, I was intrigued, so I picked up a copy of the cassette a few days later & was completely blown away by it. This record will never get old.
