Meyer Davis' Hotel Astor Orchestra - "Do Something" (1929)

Playing Next: The Rhyth-o-matics - Ghost Skankers / Riders In The Sky (Stan Jones Cover)
Random Page  /  Random Song

Here's a great early 'talkie' motion picture hit, actually featured in two 1929 films, the musical \"Syncopation\" and the comedy \"Nothing But The Truth.\" Recording date is June 6, 1929. The uncredited singer is Dick Robertson.

Played back on a Victor Orthophonic Victrola, Model VE 4-4, the \"Granada\", circa 1926. This model was equipped with the special Orthophonic diaphragm and soundbox that was specifically designed to play back electrically recorded phonograph records. But it also came equipped with an electric motor instead of a spring would mechanism. A medium tone phonograph needle was used for playback, and the Victrola horn was recorded using a Shure SM571 compact dynamic microphone.
