Canned Heat - Going Up The Country

Random Page  /  Random Song

\"Going Up The Country\" from Canned Heat's 1968 album \"Living the Blues\" was one of the biggest hits/anthems of the Woodstock generation. The band played this song, among others, at Woodstock 1969.

Canned Heat based this song, the strong presence of the flute in particular, on an old blues song called \"Bull Doze Blues\" by Henry Thomas. Canned Heat's song really embodies so much of the 1960's counter-culture ideas and attitudes about life. The youth wanted to make their own rules and lifestyles. They were frustrated with the old conservative ways of the 1950's. This song is simple and to the point which makes it beautiful.
