When Herb Wiedoeft died in a automobile accident in 1928 the Herb Wiedoeft Orchestra became know as the Jesse Stafford Orchestra. The Weidoeft group first established itself by means of an extended run at the Cinderella Roof in Los Angeles. A contract to record with Brunswick Records followed, with the label soon playing host to material including the group's theme tune, 'Cinderella Blues', a song written in tribute to their first home. Wiedoeft's band continued, however, with trombone player Jesse Stafford taking over its leadership. He relocated the orchestra to San Francisco, where they played a three year run at the Palace Hotel, before taking a series of dates in local theatres. When Stafford died of a heart attack in 1947 the orchestra finally disbanded.
