Kai Gullmar (1905-1982) was a very interesting personality in the Swedish hit
industry. She was born as Gulli Bergström in 1905 in Sundsvall. But as an artist and composer, she became Kai Gullmar and changed her skirt to long trousers and menswear. She lived as an open lesbian during a time when few could even dream of any kind of openness. But she was loved by the Swedish people and is still a composer (she wrote over 500 melodies) that is picked out when the Swedes singalong. The most famous melody is perhaps the \"Swing it magistern\" who was made by Alice Babs and started the Swedish swing era.
Together with Lennart Pim Pim Falk (1908-1972) she formed the duo Kai & Lenn. They made a few songs on record. Kai Gullmar also made many solo records. This is a very unusual recording that is missing in the Royal Library's collections (and is therefore extra fun to present on my youtube channel).
Another of the great Swedish artists Nisse Lind (1904-1941) the first Swedish real jazz accordionist accompanies with his orchestra.
The recording was made in 1935 on Swedish Decca. A record label that established itself during the thirties in Sweden. But the company did not do well with the sale and early Swedish Decca records are not particularly easy to find.
