The Springfield Rifle got their start recording for Jerden Records as a group called The Dynamics. They did plenty of recording under that name, sometimes with Jimmy Hanna taking lead credit ahead of the group. By 1966, they had cut a record for Jerden Records called I'll Be Standing There. This side would later be directly reissued as a Springfield Rifle recording. Soon after, the Springfield Rifles was born. They had one release on ABC before their name dropped the S on Rifles and they joined the Jerden Records roster as The Springfield Rifle. Members during their 10 year long history as a band included Jeff Afdem, Terry Afdem, Danny Brabant, Joe Cavender, Mark Bishop, Dennis Ashbrook, Larry Duff, Ron Hendee, Dean Quackenbush, Bob Perry, Dave Talbott, Marty Tuttle, Sam Wisner, Harry Wilson and Mark Whitman. By 1969, Jeff was recording some sides as Jeff Afdem And The Springfield Flute, and at one time, Jeff Afdem and Harry Wilson put out a single on Jerden under the artist name Plant 2. Jerry Dennon would issue records he felt had a national appeal on his Jerden record label, while his Burdette label was meant more for local issues. By 1969, Jerry was closing up shop on his Jerden record label and he started pushing more product out on his other labels. This one, from late 1969, ended up on the Burdette label, which for the year of 1969 found manufacture and distribution nationally through the Capitol record label.
