A Love Supreme is arguably one of the most influential recordings of the 20th century. Coltrane and his quartet (McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones and Jimmy Garrison) recorded this in one session. IT IS A MASTERPIECE! Every musician is at the very top of their game at that time. Even so, each musician actually got even better as time went on. I never had the pleasure of seeing John Coltrane or Jimmy Garrison in a live performance. But I did see McCoy Tyner and Elvin Jones many times in the 70s and 80s. I was never, ever disappointed.
I put this on Youtube, because I think it is a sacrilege to have commercials in between the movements of this masterpiece. Absolutely Crude and Barbaric. This Music is not only technically and cerebrally fulfilling, it is also spiritually powerful. It was the beginning for me when it comes to music as healer, enlightener, uplifter, praying without words, being Thankful and feeling BLESSED! All these things, just by listening to the music.
