Wox-5 form the penultimate movement of a more complex work that the composer began in 1980 for a cycle of vocal works collectively entitled WOX.

Wishart was invited at Ircam in 1981 and only in 1986 he realized this composition.

The piece was made using a computer programs useful to manipulate analysis data obtained from Mark Dolson's Phase Vocoder. This latter, togheter the software by Wishart, were integrated on the Composer's Desktop Project.
