Hugo Jugy is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He was born in France in 1990 and raised in Reunion Island (Indian Ocean). His mother is music teacher and his father is sound engineer. He moved around a lot and discovered music as a young drummer at the age of 7. Around this time he started playing guitar and singing.
During high school he was in several bands, including the alternative and post-punk band the Samsarians.
He moved from Reunion Island to Paris to begin recording as a solo artist. Failing to find work as a musician, he worked in different stores. After that, he moved to Brussels and released four full-length home studio albums between 2016 and 2019.
Since 2009, he has recorded 32 self-produced albums, all available on streaming platforms.
Hugo Jugy's style employs the use of drum machine, rythm box, vibrato effects on the guitar and a generally lo-fi, indie music. He has mentioned Beatles, Pixies and Fugazi as favourite artists.
Hugo Jugy's music has been generally termed as Indie rock, Alternative and Lo-Fi. He has pointed to bands such as Pavement, Nirvana or Mac Demarco as influences on his production style.
From around 2015 Hugo Jugy resided in Brussels, Belgium.
