João Gilberto is a bossa nova album by João Gilberto, originally released in Brazil as a vinyl LP in 1973 and reissued on CD in 1988.
The minimal instrumentation – just Gilberto's guitar and voice, plus Sonny Carr's very sparse percussion and the accompanying voice of Miùcha in the last song – give the album a hypnotic feel. The album's sound engineer was the famous electronic music pioneer Wendy Carlos. This album is often referred to as João Gilberto's \"white album\", in a reference to the Beatles' White Album.
It was listed by Rolling Stone Brazil as one of the 100 best Brazilian albums in history. (Wikipedia)
Through this restoration, I aimed at obtaining the best possible quality from the recording through a hiss removal process.
Most background hiss was removed with digital restoration techniques to get the sound to a pristine level of clarity.
The final result is a sound quality that reveals the magnificent work of Gilberto, especially regarding his experimental research on voice, guitar and the acoustic interactions between them.
