Today is the 10th anniversary of this song and the release of my debut album Color; it marks a decade of (accidentally) being a part of the music industry.
This song was the first song that I wrote as a solo artist after somebody told me to go back to my country. It's become an anthem for people who are “othered,” ignored and oppressed.
Today is also my birthday, but I don’t see the point in celebrating anything while the country of my birth continues to be the source of my deepest sadness, worries and shame. This year alone, over 500 Colombian citizens have been murdered...these are land protectors, human rights defenders, social leaders, and innocent children.
If you want to “celebrate\" me today, please consider donating to my GoFundMe campaign, which is raising money for vulnerable musicians and their families in the North Coast of Colombia, who have been suffering from food insecurity throughout the pandemic.
