Well I think it's fine, building jumbo planes
G C G C
Or taking a ride on a cosmic train
G C G C
Switch on summer from a slot machine
G C G C
Yes, get what you want to if you want 'cos you can get anything
Am D Am D
I know we've come a long way, we're changing day to day
Am D G C G C G C G C
But tell me, where do the children play?
G C G C
Well you roll on roads over fresh green grass
G C G C
For your lorryloads pumping petrol gas
G C G C
And you make them long, and you make them tough
F C F C
But they just go on and on, and it seems you can't get off
Am D Am D
I know we've come a long way, we're changing day to day
Am D G C G C G C G C
But tell me, where do the children play?
G C G C
When you crack the sky, scrapers fill the air
G C
Will you keep on building higher
G C
'til there's no more room up there?
F C F C
Will you make us laugh, will you make us cry?
F C F C
Will you tell us when to live, will you tell us when to die?
Am D
I know we've come a long way
Am D
We're changing day to day--hey
Am D G C G C
But tell me, where do the children play?
G C G C
Do doot do, do de do doot do

Do de do doot do do de do do

Cat Stevens began performing his songs in London coffee houses and pubs. At first he tried forming a band, but realised he preferred performing solo. Thinking his birth name might be difficult to remember, he chose the stage name Cat Stevens, in part because a girlfriend said he had eyes like a cat, but mainly because \"I couldn't imagine anyone going to the record store and asking for 'that Steven Demetre Georgiou album'. And in England, and I was sure in America, they loved animals.\"
In 1966, at age 18, he was heard by manager/producer Mike Hurst, formerly of British vocal group the Springfields. Hurst arranged for him to record a demo and helped him get a record deal. Stevens's first singles were hits: \"I Love My Dog\" reached number 28 on the UK Singles Chart; and \"Matthew and Son\", the title song from his debut album, reached number 2 in the UK.[35] \"I'm Gonna Get Me a Gun\" was his second UK top 10 single, reaching number 6, and the album Matthew and Son reached number 7 on the UK Albums Chart.[36] The original version of the Tremeloes' hit \"Here Comes My Baby\" was written and recorded by Stevens.
