She was the wife of jazz trumpeter Lester Bowie, daughter of Martha Bass and the sister of David Peaston.

‘Travellin’ is title track of Fontella’s 2001 Justin Time Records release. This is a wonderful blend of Jazz, Funk, Soul & Gospel. Of course Gospel is the main theme of this wonderful album. The lyrics are a mixture of praise and prayer. ‘Use me Lord to extend Your Kingdom’. Special guest on this album is her brother David Peaston. Fontella has also appeared on albums with the Art Ensemble of Chicago.
