1939 HITS ARCHIVE: My Heart Belongs To Daddy - Mary Martin & Eddy Duchin (78rpm version)

At least until the wildly successful “South Pacific” in 1949, this sly tune from Martin’s Broadway debut in the Cole Porter musical “Leave It To Me” remained the song with which she was most closely identified (this post was the popular commercial release, though an alternate take has also been commonly reissued on CD). Another Porter hit from the show was “Get Out Of Town,” also recorded by the Duchin orchestra (listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2rlIyXPYaM ).

Transferred from 78rpm Brunswick 8282 - My Heart Belongs To Daddy (Porter) by Mary Martin with Eddy Duchin & his Orchestra, recorded in NYC December 2, 1938

THE 1939 HITS ARCHIVE - here in one place, a good-quality library of original-release-version best-sellers and songs that made an impact that were either released or enjoyed a major chunk of their popularity within the calendar year 1939 (some were recorded in 1938).
