notes :

Augustus Pablo, born as Horace Swaby, was a musical genius who became one of the most unique creators of music on the planet. From the early 1970's on, his impact on the world of reggae was profound - as one of the prime architects of dub music, as a composer of instrumental music, as session musician, and as producer, especially as nurturer of new, young talent.

His music trascended the realm of reggae and became appreciated by musicians and ordinary listeners in all fields alla around the globe. In particular, Pablo's ability to create melodies - whether on various keyboards or on his signature melodica, a child's toy which in his hands was an instrument of subtlety and beauty - set him apart. Pablo passing in 1999 left a great void in reggae and the world in general.

Pablo as recording artist typically created two kinds of albums - instrumental albums, which featured his haunting melodies played on piano, melodica, organ, clavinet, and synthesizer - and dub albums, which featured re-mixed, \"dubbed up\" versions of exixting recordings.

Pablo's 1977 dub album \"King Tubby Meets The Rockers Uptown\" is generally acknowledged to be a reggae dub classics and one of the fifty greatest reggae album ever recorded. That album resulted from a collaboration of Pablo with King Tubby, the recognized inventor of the dub music genre.

King Tubby is a revered figure, appreciated not only for his great technical ability and creativity as a mixer and producer, but also for the benign nature of his spirit. Many reggae musicians and fans alike believe that a special kind of magic artistic abilities led to an extra dimension in the music they worked on together. \"Rockers Meets King Tubby In A Fire House\", originally released in 1980, is in many ways the successor to \"King Tubby Meets The Rockers Uptown\". Tubby lived in the Waterhouse section of Kingston; given the rough-and-tumble goings-on there, it was referred to locally as \"Fire House\"; indeed, King Tubby was unfortunately murdered there at his home in a seemingly random act of violence against a man who had no enemies.

The Pablo/Tubby wizardry is much in evidence on this album. The selection of rhythms on these tracks is exemplary; Pablo had a particular genius for selecting and recording powerful rhythms. On this special edition of \"Rockers Meets King Tubby In A Fire House\" there are four bonus tracks not included on the original album release.

These tracks, \"Son Of Man Dub\", \"Rasta To The Hills\", \"Twin Seal Dub\" and \"House Of Dub Version\", came from rare contemporaneous singles and fit in naturally with the original album tracks.

In short, \"Rockers Meets King Tubby In A Fire House\" is an absolutely vital slice of classic dub created by two masters of the form!

\"Give thanks to King Selassie I for health strenght and energy, life for I and I to create this album, Selah.

Augustus Pablo\"
