This is an early recording of Pearl Chertok playing her \"Around the Clock\" suite. It's from a set of 2 red vinyl 78's; I'm guessing circa 1950 ?
The album was found while sorting and playing an imposing collection of 78's; Imagine shelves 24 X 8 ft. crammed with records, built one in front of another 6 deep, the inner reaches \"entombed\" as a friend put it. How can one resist titles like \"Beige Nocturne\" or \"Harpicide at Midnight\" ? - went straight to the \"must play\" stack. ( Imagine what she might have done with Giacometti's surrealist object \" The Palace at 4 AM\".)
Unfortunately space is limited at this record store; most of the 78 collection was sold and in the confusion of packing \"Around the Clock\" wound up in the to go pile. Fortunately I'd taped it. As it was recorded on one deck and played for digitization on another the pitch, tempo might be a bit off. Also, at least one of the sides had some lateral warp, giving a vibrato effect at times; not Chertok's doing.
