Santa Esmeralda started as a studio project in 1977, fronted by Leroy Gomez, but disagreements following their debut mega hit Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood saw Gomez being fired and replaced by Jimmy Goings who kept the group going until 1983 where they quietly disbanded. Gomez recouped the rights to perform and record as Santa Esmeralda in the year 2000 and released an album of new songs and re-recordings of their past hits. Two years later another new album was released, Lay Down My Love. Although released only on a small Italian label, Just Music, it is another great collection of songs, taking the Santa Esmeralda sound into the new millennium and still sounding fresh, Gomez is on top of his game vocally and as a composer. I have added two later recordings, Querida, Te Quiero and Techno Latino, to the set list plus some dance versions of the classic hits.
