SOCIETY is a duo comprised of vocalist James Girdler and producer/sound-maker Brendan Lynch. They’ve been slowly (their first track came out three years ago) building up a reputation around London, and they’ve now been signed with Luv Luv Luv Records.
Released their debut LP All That We’ve Become and dropped new single 'Will To Win”. Released digitally today (Friday), with a physical release on 2 September, the album follows acclaimed singles “Protocol” and “The Fear The Hate”.
Initially an enigmatic outfit, Society was revealed to be comprised of 24-year-old singer Jamie Girdler with legendary producer Brendan Lynch (Paul Weller, Primal Scream) shaping the sound. Broad and cinematic, Society’s sound is one of infinite scope. Bringing together elements of electronica, soul and trip-hop, it’s an album that grabs you and deserves repeat listens.
Discussing the “Will To Win”, Society said: “It was a long day in the studio and we weren’t really getting anywhere. We had a chorus but for some reason the verse just wouldn’t work, we were going to scrap it. La Roux was recording in the studio next door to us and we’d been hanging out, talking about Bowie- as you do. It was late and I was feeling tired and deflated so I just started doing silly Bowie impersonations down the mic and the verse just came out. Brendan shouted, ‘That’s it!’ I thought he was joking at first; we finished the track that night… ”
