Hri (Hrī, Hṛ:) is a Buddhist concept which translates to conscientiousness or self-reflection. While the word Hrī has a meaning in Pali, Hinduism, Sanskrit, Jainism as well as Prakrit, Mysoulisahippie finds a deeper connection with its Buddhist interpretation. This album is named after the track Hri which reflects Mysoulisahippie's inner calling and philosophies in life.
With five songs that reflect the various phases of Mysoulisahippie's life, the album Hri has a unique sound and style that he developed over the years by playing with different musicians. While it is difficult to categorize this album into any specific genre, it is fair to say that it is a blend post-progressive rock, ambient music, and alternative metal.
The entire album was recorded in the living room of his apartment in Montreal during the COVID-19 pandemic. The songs in this album have been carefully arranged like chapters in a book for listeners to comprehend the emotions expressed in the whole album as well as the individual tracks.
The first song of the album is Tulum, which sets a base for the listener in their journey through the album. Blending elements of indie-chill, ambient music and progressive rock, it is the perfect track for the road. Mysoulisahippe composed this song to express his gratitude towards the city after spending two paradisiacal weeks there.
Hri is the second song of the album and it takes the listener to a spiritual journey. With melodic solos and polyrhythmic beats this song truly represents Mysoulisahippie's sound. Hri reflects Mysoulisahippie’s inner calling and ideologies in life. Hence, it is the title track of the album.
Transience, as the name denotes, is the interlude track of the album. It is a fusion of post-rock and progressive rock with elements of ambient guitar tunes and rhythmic solos. It also carves out space for the next track Vamonos, which is an eccentric upbeat track. Vamonos is a Spanish word which means 'let’s get out of here!', and the listener would know why this song is called so as soon as it starts.
The last song of the album is called When You Love a Storm and is meant to calm the listener down. It gives space to the listener to breathe and absorb the emotions triggered by the previous tracks. With a tranquil and ambient carpet of orchestral sounds, When You Love a Storm brings to mind the feeling of entering a dreamscape. This song is named after a poem called When You Love a Storm by Mysoulisahippie's brother Anshuman Dash. This song casts a calming spell on the listener, carries one into a captivating journey and is ideal for meditation and relaxation.
