This record was huge in New England in late 1966 and early 1967. This song made it to the top 10 on WBZ in Boston, Massachusettes and WLLH in Lowell, Massachusettes and also charted on WHYN in Springfield, Massachusettes. In late 1966 the group even made an appearance on the Brad Davis Show (which aired on WTIC TV in Hartford, Conneticut) to perform this song (in spite of online mentionings to the contrary, even though this side had the higher matrix number, this side was in fact the A side of the single, it was the side that got all the airplay, and plugs in the December 10, 1966 and December 31, 1966 editions of Billboard Magazine). Group members during this time period included Ned Early (drummer), Tom Ross (guitarist and lead singer - sometimes listed as Tom Rose) and Mark Jennings (bassist). Within a year there would be some lineup changes in the band would find themselves based out of Allentown, PA. With distribution of this single being handled by Atco records, this tune should've gotten more national attention and distribution. Unfortunately the label really dropped the ball by not promoting this group on a national level and they also pressed the single on the noisiest vinyl possible. You can hear the record noise at the end of this video, and this is a near mint copy of the single!) so as a result the group faded into obscurity shortly after this single was released. They did have additional singles on Fontana and Virtue records (under the direction of Wes Farrell) but neither of these did anything on the charts (from what I can tell, the Fontana single was first, this single came second, another, possibly promotional only, Three Rivers single followed, and then the Virtue single was released). They had recorded some tracks with Neil Sedaka producing but I have no idea if these were ever released. Indeed this Three Rivers single was the best of their existing output and it's a shame they didn't have a lot more material that sounded like this 45. I have no idea what ever became of the group members, but wherever they are, I hope they know that their music is still finding new fans even today. It appears that their entire recorded output has been reissued on a bootleg cd (at least it is being made available by someone, even if it is not from a record company that owns the rights to the recordings).
