Gustaf Egerstams orkester - Who does not want a sweet little girl, like you (1927) instrumental

Playing Next: Sunshine Elevation
Random Page  /  Random Song

In 1927 The Swedish composer Jules Sylvain (1900-1968) wrote this music for the revue \"Sun outside, sun inside\" (Sol ute, sol inne). The first one to record it was Gustav Egerstam and his orchestra, in quite modern rhythm for Sweden. Maybe he also was orchestra leader for the revue, I'm not sure. It was a popular tune, recorded in various versions in the following years, for example by Dajos Béla (1928).
Gustaf Egerstam (1898-1976) played clarinet as military musician from the beginning, in 1927 he started his own orchestra (he also played violin as you can see at the picture). His orchestra played at Riche restaurant, you can still can visit Riche, if you're in Stockholm. He had some influence at the early Swedish jazz, for example by introducing saxophone trios at his arrangements. Even if I not should call him a real jazz musician. He became the last Swedish orchestra leader working for the Swedish Revue king Ernst Rolf when he died suddenly Dec. 25th of 1932 . (in pneumonia after a suicide attempt, by trying to drowning. Swedish lakes are cold in December....)
In the thirties he became musical producer for the small Swedish gramophone label Toni. In the forties he, changed focus to play more Swedish folklore music.
