Are you still going to parties and hanging out with friends? Well that is sooo 2019. Today's cool kids are staying home and practicing #socialdistancing. Why? You don't have to wear pants or do your hair, your co-workers can't steal your yogurt, your favorite sports team can't lose if they don't play, AND you have time to use the Internet to better yourself with all the knowledge humanity has gained over the millennia! ...or watch Netflix. Or cat videos. Or parodies like this one. From the performer of \"My Corona\" now comes \"Shiny Happy Social Distancing People\". #songsofcomfort
Just like many of my colleagues, my gigs have been cancelled and I've lost work for the next several months. That's rough, but it also has an up-side: We finally have time to collaborate! So today, I had a virtual jam session with Axel Kowollik, John Schiessler, and C.B.Green. We each recorded our own parts in our separate studios and I spliced us all together (it may have been the most hygienic recording session of all time). We made a parody of the R.E.M. song \"Shiny Happy People\" from their 1991 album \"Out of Time\" featuring Kate Pierson of the B-52's. So welcome to the premiere of my new band: \"Stephanie & the Quarantines\"!
Fun fact: You can support us for FREE by streaming our music. We are all available on most streaming platforms. For example, you can stream me on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1tHe1JjCR8c9CdqQileDx5
(Pro tip: if you stream me on repeat all night, I might even be able to afford to buy a roll of toilet paper to send to C.B.!)
And now it's time for the PSA part of this current-event-extravaganza:
Why is social distancing important? Because our health systems are not equipped to handle the wave of people who will need ventilators if COVID-19 spreads too quickly. That is why we are called to stay at home whenever possible: to #flattenthecurve. And to protect the doctors, nurses, and hospital staff on the front line as they battle the virus.
Comedy Central's Daily Show has started making The Daily Social Distancing Show where Trevor Noah and the world's fakest news team tackle the biggest stories in news, politics and pop culture from home - including news about the novel coronavirus: https://youtu.be/7E_kAVh08bw
