Marek Weber m.s. Orchester – Gigolette (Lehar) One-Step [Shimmy] Parlophon 1924 (Germany) acoustical recording
NOTE: In the mid-1920s “Gigolette” was a popular shimmy, composed by Franz Lehar, author of famous fin-de-siecle Viennese Operettas, such as “The Merry Widow”, “Count Luxembourg” or “The Land of Smiles”. In 1922 he composaed a moderately popular operette La Danse des Libellules (The Dance of the Dragonflies) which had its not very successful premiere in Milan. (Later in London, it was staged under the title Three Graces). In 1924, Lehar decided to include the shimmy “Gigolette” into the libretto and while the operetta was almost completely forgotten, the tune became an international hit. See the version recorded by the German Jazz-age orchestra Dobbri in 1927 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4U1LUyoWOs or by the French diseuse Lucienne Boyer in 1930 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hopKsgiuMQ4 . Here, the tune is played by the renowned Berlin dance orchestra led by the German/Polish conductor Marek Weber.
