Yoshio Ohtomo is a Japanese Jazz saxophonist ( alto and soprano saxophone ). He plays in the hard bop tradition.Otomo worked in the Tokyo jazz scene from the early 1970s , he made his first recordings in 1974 with singer Minami Yasuda ( South ). He played in the following years in the big band of George Kawaguchi , the quartet of Takashi Mizuhashi , with Isao Suzuki / Tsuyoshi Yamamoto and Fumio Itabashi . He led his own quartet and with Hidefumi Toki had the group Alto Madness , in which Kazumi Watanabe , Nobuyoshi Ino and Steve Jackson ( Lover Man, 1975).
After the albums Oh Friends (1976) and Moon Ray ( Three Blind Mice , 1977), recorded with Tsuyoshi Yamamoto , Tamio Kawabata and O. 'Jess' Kurata , he released an album under his own name, As a Child , in 1978 , to which Toshiyuki Sekine , Satoshi Kosugi and Akiyoshi Yoshino cooperated. In the 1980s he worked with Toshio Ohsumi and Shinichi Kato .In jazz, he played in 16 recording sessions between 1974 and 1993, including one of Shigeo Maruyama 's big band , Suikyo Za Orchestra (Kick Off).
