Normally I wouldn't be posting something on this channel that was commercially available. But this recording was inexplicably not already available on YouTube, so here it is.
One of Hank's best charts. It was originally (I believe) written for the Don Ellis orchestra--the incarnation that included the string quartet as well as a few other orchestral winds. It's in 13, mostly divided 3, 3, 2, 2, 3.
Hank made a standard big band instrumentation of this as well. In the process, he changed some things a little here and there. From those that knew and worked with him, apparently that was a rather common practice of his, thus making \"definitive\" versions elusive.
