I've been given the nod that I can now start using the Sonicware Liven XFM in videos with other equipment rather than just on it's own. There will be more solo XFM videos, but this was a nice chance to combine some equipment.
This video is also me trying something slightly different, only slightly though. I've used a lot of old VHS footage projected over my work in the past, but they have almost all been bits of found footage that were abandoned and found with their respective camcorders for sale. This is the first in a possible series of videos where I explore more into my families recordings which are obviously much more nostalgic for me. So this 'Home Videos 1' and it's of a cub scout camping trip I had back in '89 according to the label on the tape. If you squint I'm in there waving at the camera like a moron and moonwalking when I should be playing football :) Watching the footage was bitter sweet for me as I know at least a couple of the lads I'm with have since passed away.
Audio wise the XFM is synced to the 8Bit Waprs over midi meaning they both start at the same time which is cool. The audio out from the 8Bit Warps is routed through the XFM too because I ran out of channels on my mixer so it's nice to have that feature as an option. The Volca Modular is clocked over sync and uses the Korg NTS-1 as a delay effect. The audio from the footage is routed through my mixer also. I'm making extensive use of the random LFO shape on the XFM which randomizes the pitch on each note a bit to give some real wonk. I'm also programming a bit of automation into the 8Bit warps on the fly to add some movement to it's percussive sounds. Edit: Volca patch added here as 'Falling Star Lead': https://www.dropbox.com/sh/l6c592egulnmjkg/AACuNF5FAg4C6ewk2OSO5wDNa?dl=0
The mixer used is an Inkel MX880E with Zoom 1201 reverb. Keep an eye out for my inquisitive tom cat Crusha btw :D
Oh almost forgot, the new intro is probably just going to be for lo-fi VHS projector type videos, but I had a lot of fun making that. It's not a filter, I ran it through a real VHS recorder and back into the computer. The audio jingle on that is made using the XFM too :)
