Joe South is a music legend. His carer began as a session musician back in the 1950's for NRC Records and continued into the 1970s. His brother Tommy, the drummer for his backup band The Believers, took his own life in 1971, which pushed Joe into a deep depression from which he never recovered. He returned to music briefly in 1975 but essentially retired after that, sporadically returning to perform from time to time in small settings. Joe passed away in 2012, still blaming himself for his brother's death. Joe was already a well known songwriter and producer who'd had 10 singles under his own name (and several more under other names) before he finally hit the big time as a singer with his song Games People Play. When the single came out, just like with the single he issued before it (How Can I Unlove You), Joe decided to have a different vocal track between the 45 and the LP versions of the song. The 45 versions have never been reissued beyond their original 45 rpm releases, and are seldom heard these days. How many of you remember this original hit version of Games People Play? Enjoy!
