Premiered in 1962 at the Stuttgart Festival of Light Music for which it was commissioned, Polla Ta Dhina is dedicated to Hermann Scherchen. The vocal portion of the composition is an extract from Sophocles' \"Antigone\" titled here, \"Hymn to Man.\"
