In 1932 Ambrose was among the most popular British dance bands, playing at the Mayfair Hotel in the evening and recording the latest popular music hits during the day. \"Here Lies Love\" was one of the hit tunes from the movie \"The Big Broadcast\" starring Bing Crosby. HMV wanted to capitalize on the popularity of the band and started recording the orchestra from October to November of 1932 in one of the best concert halls available in London, in beautiful Kingsway Hall, home to many symphony orchestra concerts and famous classical music recordings. HMV recording engineers took much pride and effort in placing Ambrose's orchestra in the right spot balancing room reverb with superb clarity of the individual instruments, including the string section. Unfortunately, Sam Browne wasn't provided with the best vocal microphone, but this was common practice prior to the opening of the new HMV Abbey Road Studios, since it was thought that only the orchestra demanded more fidelity.
I hope you will enjoy this snappy title combined with the beautiful acoustics of Kingsway Hall.
