GameLark, the video game cover label I help run, is BACK with Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross! After re-organizing and planning our next best album, we decided to go with this legendary game series. I chose Undersea Palace, one of the most iconic overworld themes from the mid-game, and what a daunting song it was to try and cover. I used a ton of inspiration from The Contortionist's new album and a lot of sound-effect heavy soundtracks to balance out the heaviness and a more traditional arrangement.
To couple with this cover I was really proud of, I asked my friend Denis Z., who also directed the Ganondorf Battle cover, if he'd like to direct a water-friendly level.. and man what an awesome job he did. We spent 8 hours on my old campus filming with his drone over the lake and a few different spots, and stitched a bit more narrative into this one. He also did some longboarding shots, a lot of experimental angles and lighting ideas, and it ultimately came out to be one of the best looking shots I've been lucky to be in!
