John Warren - Land Of New Hope (1973?). From the same North Carolina custom label as the excellent Damascus Road project comes this equally good platter of authentic home-made rural rock. Earthy rugged backwoods feel, sometimes with a weary Neil Young-ish flavor. Warren wrote most of the songs, sings lead, and plays acoustic guitar and harmonica, while others provide organ, piano, bass, steel guitar and drums. Some parts folky and acoustic, others twangy and country, and some with rough electric guitar passages courtesy of Moose Smith and Bobby Page. Both the 6:40 title track and ‘Spend Some Time’ fall into the latter category, each with a gritty slow-jam tempo and opportunity for the instruments to solo around a bit.
