(Full album title: \"Adrenal Glandy: Songs of Love, Hate and Revenge)
This New Zealand band is a novelty country act, complete with mimicked (not to mention spot on) southern US accents and cowboy/cowgirl personae. Their style is in conjunction with the punk/new wave scene at the time, albeit much more lighthearted. As the story goes, their inclusion into the Flying Nun records catalog had no direct reasoning behind it whatsoever.
According to the \"Heavenly Pop Hits\" documentary, following Roger Shepherd's releasing the Netherworld Dancing Toy's \"Trusted Ones\" 12\", Chris Knox had sought some sort of \"payback\".
\"The Auckland branch [of Flying Nun] was a little dismayed by the 'Netherworld Dancing' thing...we couldn't see why they should be on, so in revenge, we got [the] Eric Glandy Memorial Big Band, who were a country and western piss-take that had NOTHING to do with ANYTHING you could possibly imagine describing as the Dundedin Sound. We got them on the label...just to show that we can be tasteless as well\". During that segment, the song \"Do the Glandy\" is heard.
For anyone interested, I did rip this record myself; it is quite a rare find. I'd really want to get this back into circulation, and I also have each track separately in 320 kbps MP3. It seems that the entire 45 minutes of this record is one consistent live performance, as there is no silence between each track. But I'm sure hardcore record collectors (from NZ or otherwise) would feel grateful to see this posted!
