October 31, 2020: Spartan Jet-Plex: Nancy Grim Kells (they/them) is releasing an EP as a companion to their album Live. These are a short set of songs that were written pre-pandemic. They weren't recorded for Live since they didn't fit with that set of songs. While Live is more of a celebration of life and living, Carry Me to My Grave is a lamentation of life and also of death, but these songs find and breathe hope, comfort and solace despite sadness and sorrow. Kells' music is largely inspired by older folk and blues music, and they quite literally bring in 2 of their favorite musicians via samples (Charlie McCoy and Blind Willie Johnson) on the tracks Shipwreck and Sun/Moon. Shipwreck uses a Charlie McCoy sample from Candy Man Blues. His words Carry Me to My Grave launch the song Shipwreck. Sun/Moon begins with a remix of Dark Was the Night - Cold Was the Ground by Willie Johnson. It then morphs into Kells' folk song Sun/Moon, and then again bleeds at the end into a tribute version of Dark Was the Night - Cold Was the Ground. Proceeds for this EP support Grimalkin. There will be a few 7\" records of Shipwreck and Sun/Moon which will come with the full EP digital download. Kells is also made a few handmade tapes of the entire EP as well. The visual album for Carry Me to My Grave was made in collaboration with Rafael de Toledo Pedroso in the same style as the videos for Live. This time Kells took footage of old country cemeteries near their home and Rafa did the effects and editing. In addition, this EP also features the song Kill the Greed and an intro and outro both titled Carry Me to My Grave. The intro and outro both feature field recordings Kells took while filming the cemetery footage for the videos.
