The New York-based band was founded back in 1975 by guitarist and main songwriter Mark Reale and drummer Peter Bitelli after the split of their previous band Kon-Tiki, completing the line-up with bass player Phil Feit and vocalist Guy Speranza. Riot split up in 1984 after failing to make a commercial breakthrough. Mark Reale relocated to Texas and started a new band called Narita, but was later persuaded to give Riot another shot. After briefly relocating to Los Angeles with Narita bassist Don Van Stavern and returning members Rhett Forrester and Sandy Slavin, Reale returned to New York with Van Stavern and formed a new line-up.
