The more music I listen to and uncover, the more I come to two conclusions. One, in the best way possible, there are way too many spinoff’s and collaborations in this world on which to keep tabs. Two, just because a group’s overall sound isn’t “good,” doesn’t mean it’s not full of extremely talented people. For example, I’m not a big fan of Hot Chip, an electronic, alt rock band comprised of five members; however, one of the members, Joe Goddard, decided to join forces with a former record label employee, Raf Randall.
As The 2 Bears, the Londoners’ music is quite literally bumping. Taking a look into their track, “Take a Look Around,” the duo exudes high energy vibes from the very first second. They begin with a thumping jungle groove, followed by pumping some fresh air into a deep, heavy bass line. There is no sign of decline from that point forwards, both instrumentally and lyrically. The lyrics celebrate doing whatever the fuck you want, when you want. The secret? Apparently taking a look around and feeling all of the love that’s in the air. I can get on board with that.
Throughout the unfaltering upbeat pace of a snare, the Bears subtly layer in sophisticated sounds that not only fill out the song’s unique texture, but could also fill the dancefloor. Before the first drop, there’s potentially some synthesized bird chirping. During and after the first drop, you’ll hear the glassy noises that somewhat sound like a talented street musician jamming out with their kitchenware. Throw in some female disco-esque vocals that then harmonize for the rest of the song, and we’ve got a party. So, as suggested by the artists themselves, go grab somebody from your neighborhood and dance!
