The name of Tim Follin's piece \"The Process That Never Ends\" from Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future intrigued me a lot. What is it? What is the process that never ends?
That got me reading a lot more about Ecco the Dolphin lore, upon which I discovered that Defender of the Future's story was written by David Brin, who won Hugo and Lucas scifi awards for books within the Uplift series. (Interestingly, the Uplift series has served as inspiration for a number of other works, such as the gay furry visual novel Adastra. Am I saying I read the latter before even knowing about the former? I will never tell my secrets!)
And as I got to thinking about the idea of more advanced civilizations uplifting less advanced civilizations, I got to thinking about Mormonism, where it has been said that \"As man is, God once was. As God is, Man may become.\"
How narcissistic and shortsighted is it to presume that only human being were created in the image of God? In Mormonism, it is taught that we are saved in community -- as families. But what if we are saved as an interspecies community working together?
