The Old Drunkard and His Wife ( La Vieux Soulard et sa Femme) is a humorous song about a wife trying to goad her husband into a conversation by playfully teasing him. To add to the humor, she only gets short sarcastic answers. This song is a variation of an old folk song better known as My Good Old Man (Mon Bon Vieux Mari).
Cleoma and Joe Falcon recorded this on the Decca label in New York in August 1928 .Vocals by Cleoma Breaux Falcon and vocal interjections by Joe Falcon. The French-Cajun lyrics are subtitled in English (or at least, I tried to subtitle in English, but friends whose first language is French tell me I made some errors.) O well.
