From Match’s 1969 album, “A New Light”
From the softer end of the sunshine pop genre, the Match released this breezy harmony filled album in 1969. They chose tracks from a variety of then contemporary writers, such as David Gates, Paul Simon, Bacharach-David, Jim Web and Roger Nichols. The latter wrote this track with Tony Asher, who was Brian Wilson’s writing partner in the mid-60s. Together they penned most of the tracks on “Pet Sounds”.
As well as being a composer – the Carpenters’ “We’ve Only Just Begun” and “Rainy Days And Mondays” were but two of his – Roger Nichols was also an artist in his own right. His album, “Roger Nichols & The Small Circle Of Friends” is highly prized by sunshine/soft pop collectors.
