1941 Sonny Kendis album: 04 Diga Diga Do (instrumental)

Playing Next: Ich ging einmal spazieren (ohne Hemd und Höschen)
Random Page  /  Random Song

This early success for the songwriting team of Dorothy Fields and Jimmy McHugh had been introduced in the Broadway revue “Blackbirds Of 1928,” which starred Adelaide Hall and Bill ‘Bojangles’ Robinson.

Track #4 of eight posted sides from the 1941 Columbia Records album set C-75 “A Night At The Stork Club,” dance arrangements of pre-1930 tunes conducted by Sonny Kendis, piano-playing leader of the small band at New York’s famed night spot The Stork Club. Though Kendis was given label credit on the original 78 discs, you’ll note that his name did not appear on the album’s cover or anywhere among the inside notes. It was prominently displayed, however, on Columbia’s later LP reissue...scans of which can be seen during the video. All eight of these individual album tracks are also available for continuous sequential listening in a single 21-minute video posted under the title “1941 full album: A Night At The Stork Club with Sonny Kendis.”

LP audio, originally issued on 78rpm Columbia 36396 - Diga Diga Do (Fields-McHugh) by Sonny Kendis and his Stork Club Orchestra, recorded in NYC April 21, 1941
