I have only been familiar with Cold Weather Company's music for a little over a year now (though the band's first song, \"Horizon Fire\", hit the sound waves and created a stir about three years ago ) but it didn't take me long upon the first hearing for me to fall in love with it. Their sound, to my mind, has already become synonymous to me for its grandiose and swooping feel; gorgeous piano and ever rising vocal and instrumental crescendos. Contemporary sound; all at once modern, but with a distinctly traditional and \"seasoned\" feel ( Classical at points, even. I may be alone in this, but I also get flashes of renaissance vibes from time to time) Though they are from New Jersey, my Canadian heart feels that their music fits our landscape and climate here perfectly, also. Their music reaches deep into the soul, and their sound is such that it seems to resonate and reverberate powerfully in the chest; music one feels with the whole body, not just the ears. The tracks on this album are deeply emotive and passionate, with carefully crafted, often times sombre and contemplative, lyrics. The album, to me, contains its share of \"dark\" and poignant elements , and holds a certain brooding , mysterious appeal, but overall, the music never leaves one feeling cold, or in the cold. It saddens, but it uplifts, and it brings significant warmth and love. The album is unified , each track bleeding seamlessly into the other, stories coming alive as the album gradually unfolds. All in all, it is an incredibly solid debut from the band, and they have held back nothing. Though I obviously enjoy the whole album, my favorite tracks would have to be “Horizon Fire”, Fellow in the North” “Someone Else”, “Hey Bodham Dae/What Do I Do” (Probably my very favorite track of all ) , Garden , and “Seafarer” (A Gorgeous, gorgeous song , and a superb track closer) Find more from the highly talented CWC (as well as their newest album) here:
