Paddy McAloon thought up the name Prefab Sprout during his teenage years, for an as-yet-imaginary future band that would play the songs he was writing. The name was intended to go with the current trend of unusual band names and was appreciated by Paddy for \"not giving the listener any preconceptions\", and being \"a mixture of the organic and the technical.\"
