The very first LP I ever bought was \"My Son The Folk Singer\" by Allan Sherman.
I had always been a big fan of song parodies...in fact, Stan Freberg was one of my radio heroes.
I didn't put Allan in the same class as Stan, but I really liked his humour.
I'm not sure that this is one of his best tracks...in fact, I'm fairly certain that it's not...
...it is, of course, a parody of the Petula Clark hit, \"Downtown\".
It was released in Australia in 1965 on a Warner Brothers (WB) 45, WB-5614.
The only major market where it charted was Adelaide, where it reached # 29.
At the time, it was something of an orphan in that it didn't appear on any of Allan's LPs...it was only released on the 45.
Of course, since then, it has turned up on quite a few hits compilations.
The flipside was a track from the 'Allan In Wonderland\" LP, \"The Drop-Out's March\", which I've also uploaded to YouTube.
This upload is from the original 45.
