Biography
Led by guitarist Tony T.S. McPhee, The Dollarbills adopted the name of the old Delta blues standard, \"Ground Hog Blues\" in 1963 and went on to become one of the seminal British blues bands of the sixties. In June 1964, after John Mayall's Bluesbreakers were unable to fulfill a commitment to back John Lee Hooker on the last leg of his British tour, McPhee & the Groundhogs filled in. That relationship resulted in the live album \"...And Seven Nights\" the following year.
Groundhogs issued their first official record \"Scratching the Surface\" in 1968, which was still in the classic British blues tradition. Later recordings displayed influence from the heavy blues pioneered by Jimi Hendrix and Cream, and by the then-upcoming hard rock wave. Groundhogs were also quite popular in the beginning of the 70s, even landing a few top ten hits in the UK charts.
They record and tour regularly, and collaborate with various other musicians.
