\"It is with some sadness that I write this, having just learned that Bryn Jones, the artist better known for the past 15 years as the force and fire behind Muslimgauze, died last night. This EP was released last month in MP3-only form, downloadable from the net. Emerging from the post punk scene in the early 80s, Jones' mission was simple: to combat the bias against the Islamic world view perpetrated by the Western media, and to do it with a post-industrial ethereal sound-bomb that seemed to recruit like-minded souls from timeless histories ... Hassan i Sabbah is with him in rock land, and their music is repetitive and burning on the inside -- and mesmerizing ... drum machine distortion fuzz and didgeridoo, samples and mystery, there's static hiss and it sounds like slop but the beat is kept -- you have to leave your fears behind as the songs revolve in circles, taking you to the heart of the Middle East circa right now -- although Jones himself (a Brit) had never been there.

I hope all of his 90+ albums infect the net, and soon.\"

A new BSI 12\" of hard-copy exclusives from the late Bryn Jones, aka Muslimgauze.

The four tracks on Muslimgauze's Melt 12\" were originally made available by Staalplaat & Pretentious.net as MP3s on the Muslimgauze Web site, for a limited time beginning in November of 1998. This is their first \"proper\" release, as a 12\" in an edition of 2000 copies.

Melt sees Muslimgauze throwing down in what's been called his \"West Bank\" mode: battle-tech funk & break-beat with the characteristic noise and Middle-Eastern sources you'd expect. One for bombed-out dance floors worldwide.

(BSI Records)

Melt features posthumously released material by the late Bryan Jones, aka Muslimgauze. These tracks were formerly MP3s featured on one of the Muslimgauze web sites that have since been taken down and are now committed to a limited edition vinyl run by BSI Records. There are four tracks in total, two per side. \"Rebiana Sand Sea\" is a powerful bit of sequenced distorted percussion work with sampled Middle Eastern string arrangements. \"You Have Limbs and Baksheesh\" is a hard, deep funk, percussive track with raunchy oud played overtop. \"Turn Left For Jabaliya\" is also a deeply distorted, percussive track with no discernible Middle Eastern sound this time around. \"Melt,\" the title track, has distorted beats as well but is joined with traditional North African rhythms. Melt is akin to another superb breaks album by Muslimgauze, Uzi Mahmood. This music is composed by one of the most eccentric, uncompromising and talented producers of the UK - Jones instilled an inspiring level of depth to his music. Hopefully, more archived material by Muslimgauze will be released in the future.
