During the first two months of 1954, while Eddie Fisher’s vocal of “Papa” was topping U.S. record sales, this mostly-instrumental version was doing the same thing in the UK. Though British trumpeter Calvert would have several more good-sized hits in England, “Oh Mein Papa” remains his sole American success, reaching the top-10 during its three-month stay on the Billboard singles charts.
