On July 16, 1930, Country Music Hall of Fame member Jimmie Rodgers recorded “Blue Yodel No. 9 (Standin' on the Corner)” with jazz legend Louis Armstrong. “Blue Yodel No. 9\" was Rodgers and Armstrong's only collaboration, but it endures, decades later.
Forty years after that session, in October of 1970, Country Music Hall of Fame member Johnny Cash sought to \"recreate\" the session with Armstrong on ABC’s \"The Johnny Cash Show.\"
\"I'll try to sing Jimmie Rodgers's lyrics . . . and you wail like you did on the record,\" Cash said. \"We'll see. Let's give it to them in black and white,\" Armstrong responded.
